About A Touch of Understanding
At A Touch of Understanding we change lives by teaching empathy, inclusion & respect. This is accomplished thru the lens of disability awareness.
We create a lasting impact in our schools & communities by inspiring kindness, understanding, & compassion.
We are a non-profit organization, in the Sacramento area, geared to promote disability awareness and understanding for individuals of all age groups, races, ethnicities, backgrounds, and abilities. During an ATOU workshop, students learn through hands-on activities and listening to amazing life stories from individuals with disabilities, just how alike we all are.
Our mission is to encourage acceptance and respect for all individuals. Our educational programs enhance understanding of differences, thereby minimizing discrimination and social isolation suffered by children and adults who are perceived as different for any reason, but especially those with disabilities. We are enriching the lives of all people by bridging the gap between individuals who have disabilities and those who do not. Barriers are being broken down and friendships are developing.
