Our community represents a unique intersection of Asian Americans in Utah, our heritage community, and the marginalized refugees, refugee youth, and human trafficking victims we serve.
Our mission is to engage, equip, and empower victims of human trafficking, refugees, and refugee youth to improve, become self-sufficient, and thrive. Our trauma-informed, linguistically sensitive approach is delivered by specialized staff who journey alongside each individual and family.
Established in 1977, the Asian Association of Utah began when the Asian community in Salt Lake City responded to the Governor’s request to help resettle Vietnamese refugees from Camp Pendleton at the end of the Vietnam War. Today, AAU serves victims of human trafficking, refugee youth, and refugees from around the world. In partnership with Utah resettlement agencies, the Utah State Refugee Office, refugee communities, state protective services, the Utah Attorney General’s Office, law enforcement, and the U.S. Department of Justice, AAU provides comprehensive, trauma-informed, and culturally relevant support services including case management, employment assistance, therapeutic counseling and mental health treatment, English language classes, afterschool programs, and youth mentoring. The organization also hosts the annual Utah Asian Festival, celebrating and showcasing the wealth of traditions and cultures of Asian communities.
