About ACAY Philippines - France
Founded in 1997, ACAY, which means "to rise up" in the Philippine language, represents 25 years of field experience in the Philippines that have allowed the development of innovative educational strategies that respond to the problems of troubled youth and that have shown convincing results.
In 2000, the School of Life, a place of welcome, education and empowerment, recreates a family environment for young girls aged 15 to 23, victims of abandonment, neglect, and violence. In 2002, the Second Chance programme aims to reintegrate incarcerated minors into society with a training programme in the detention centre and support on leaving prison. In 2005, the family programme enabled the parents of ACAY's young beneficiaries to be involved in supporting their reintegration and accompanying them in their parenting.
In 2012, ACAY's programmes were accredited with the highest recognition by the Department of Social Affairs of the Philippines. In 2017, Sister Sophie received the Legion of Honour from the French Government for her educational work with Filipino youth.
The results of ACAY in the Philippines have been of interest to the French Ministry of Justice and have been adapted to the context of French youth in difficulty. Since 2015, in Marseille and in the South Region, three areas of intervention have been developed:
-Support for the reintegration of incarcerated minors: in detention and outside the walls
-Prevention of delinquency from secondary school onwards
-Raising awareness of our differentiated pedagogical approach among professionals in the field
Today, we are entering into a dynamic of spin-off at the request of AMADE Mondiale in Monaco and their partners in Africa.
