About Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson's Foundation
Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson’s Foundation (ADPF) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation committed to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s Disease in Nigeria and Africa.
ADPF raises awareness, promotes early detection and diagnosis, actively provides care and support to those living with the condition at no cost, and contributes towards research to find a cure.
Parkinson’s Disease is a degenerative brain condition associated with motor and non-motor complications which affect speech, mobility and many areas of bodily function. The cause of the disease remains unknown, and, unfortunately, there is no cure yet.
In the past five years, disability and death due to Parkinson’s disease have increased faster than for any other neurological disorder, and research indicates that prevalence across Africa is rising significantly.
ADPF is committed to promoting Africa within the global Parkinson’s disease ecosystem. Africa has long been underserved and underrepresented. We recognise that increased advocacy, strategic planning, and an innovative approach to managing the disease holistically are required to reach a significant number of people with much-needed help.
Collaboration, innovation, and impact underpin all of our initiatives, and our affiliations and partnerships—local and international—attest to this.
