About AFIWEL Program
The Africa Fish and Aquaculture Welfare (AFIWEL) Program is a pan-African initiative dedicated to advancing ethical, welfare-driven, and sustainable aquaculture production across the continent. The program is implemented by One Health and Development Initiative (OHDI).
Our mission is to integrate best health and welfare practices into aquaculture systems, ensuring ethical and responsible production, environmental sustainability, better productivity, and compliance with global standards.
Through education, capacity building, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement, AFIWEL empowers fish farmers, aquaculture professionals, researchers, and policymakers to adopt science-backed welfare practices that improve fish and aquatic health, enhance food safety and security, strengthen market access, sustain livelihoods, and contribute to One Health.
Join us as we drive transformative change in Africa’s aquaculture sector—where welfare, health, and sustainability go hand in hand.
