Overview
About Afloat e.V.
Afloat e.V. is a nonprofit organisation supporting immigrant mothers* across Germany — from pregnancy through every stage of parenthood. We offer volunteer-led support groups, both in person and online, creating safe, inclusive spaces for connection, shared experience, and mutual learning.
Our mom-to-mom* and dad* peer support groups provide a vital lifeline for immigrant parents navigating the emotional, cultural, and logistical challenges of early parenthood in a new country. These groups reduce isolation, foster resilience, and offer a sense of belonging.
We recognise that while 1 in 7 mothers* will experience a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMAD), immigrant mothers* face even greater risks due to systemic barriers, linguistic challenges, and reduced access to culturally sensitive care. That’s why we serve as the German coordinator for [Postpartum Support International](https://www.postpartum.net/) — connecting families to trusted resources, multilingual materials, and a global network of support.
Founded in 2021, Afloat e.V. is a registered gemeinnütziger Verein dedicated to maternal mental health, family well-being, and reproductive justice. Our mission is to remove linguistic, cultural, and systemic barriers to quality mental health care — ensuring every mother*, father*, or caregiver feels seen, heard, and supported.
Our services are funded by donations and open to anyone who identify as mothers*, fathers*, or primary caregivers, regardless of gender identity, nationality, or family structure. The gender asterisk * signals that parenting identities are diverse and valid beyond binary definitions.
