About African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Research

Understanding Africa’s inequality dynamics is a key component of the international inequality puzzle. ACEIR uses research, data development and research capacity building to help contribute to policy interventions and civil society action against African inequalities. As one of the 13 centres of excellence of the African Research Universities Alliance, ACEIR has research nodes at the University of Ghana, Legos; University of Nairobi, Kenya; and the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

The ACEIR research themes are:
- African inequality trends
- Climate change & inequality
- Spatial inequality
- Taxes & social spending

A focus on the gendered nature of inequalities is applied across these research areas.
