Overview

About ACFS Community Education

All children reach their full potential.

ACFS is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO No. 001-213) and Public Beneficiary Organisation (PBO no. 930000475) which operates under the leadership of a Board of Trustees.

From bakeries to food gardens, brickmaking to Teenage Girls hubs, ACFS has grown and developed to provide a holistic programme enabling poor and vulnerable children to reach their potential. We currently operate in ten areas in Gauteng, the Free State and Limpopo, with programmes far beyond our humble beginnning in 1945 as Bishop Trevor Huddlestone's Sophiatown soup kitchen in Johannesburg. We recognise that in order for children to thrive holistically, they require a multi-pronged approach that includes early-learning and stimulation and educational support interventions.

For 75 years, ACFS has been standing with the children and families of marginalized townships. The Bishop had been moved by the plight of hungry children and united with a group of volunteers to combat the effects of malnutrition. He started with a menu of peanut butter sandwiches and milk . As a result the organisation is populary known as "Malebese" Which means mother of milk.

Our Aims
> To provide nutrition to the malnourished and hungry , vulnerable , underpriviledged orphans , HIV/AIDS infected and affected children
> To educate beneficiaries and communities on health related issues and diseases
> To ensure the ongoing sustainability of feeding centres through the establishment of food gardens and skills development projects
> To empower vulnerable communities with skills and knowledge that will lead to self-reliance.
