About African Snakebite Institute
The African Snakebite Institute is the leading training provider of snake awareness, first aid for snakebite and venomous snake handling courses in Africa and is also the largest supplier of quality snake handling equipment on the continent.
We present courses to both corporate clients throughout Africa and also offer courses to interested members of the public at various locations throughout Southern Africa.
Our CEO, Johan Marais, is one of Africa’s leading herpetologists with over 40 years of experience. Johan is a prominent author of snake books in Africa and has written the best sellers A Complete Guide to the Snakes of Southern Africa, Snakes and Snakebite in Southern Africa and First Aid for Snakebite. He is also the snake expert for the Tygerberg Poison Centre and the Red Cross Poison centre, as well as an advisor on snakes and snakebite to various hospitals and clinics throughout Africa.
Johan is a FGASA endorsed service provider and our courses are accredited by ISZS (the International Society of Zoological Sciences) and recognised by the AFGA (African Field Guides Association) and the NFTGA (National Federation of Tourist Guides & Affiliates).
Our courses are also registered with both the Health Professions Council of South Africa, and registered health professionals earn 4 CPD points, and the PCIPC (Pest Control Industry Professional Council) and registered members receive 3 CPD points when completing this course.
