About Afripie Technology
There are over 600 million consumers in emerging countries in Africa that require assistance from family abroad to help pay their utility bills on a month-to-month basis. The current payment medium to help facilitate this payment is by sending funds via remittance gateways (e.g., Western Union, MoneyGram, Wise).
Currently, remittance flows to Sub-Saharan Africa are recorded to be $41 Billion in 2021. Source: The World Bank
However, the true total is likely to be three or four times this amount with unrecorded remittances passing through friends/family
Currently, 75% of remittances ($30billion) to Sub Sahara Africa go to pay some form of a utility bill (electricity, tax, water, insurance, phone, medical, etc.).
