AI-PASSPORT is a research project to create an innovative AI-powered platform designed to transform maritime operations by seamlessly connecting ships with ports in real time. Developed through a UK–South Korea collaboration, AI-PASSPORT offers advanced features such as optimised route planning, just-in-time port arrival scheduling, and AI-driven safety insights to enhance efficiency, reduce emissions, and improve safety across global shipping and port operations.
The platform integrates shipboard data with live port intelligence, providing shipping companies with tools to cut fuel costs, minimise idle wait times, and streamline logistics. Ports benefit from real-time data sharing, enhanced terminal planning, and optimised throughput, contributing to smoother operations and reduced congestion.
Early trials of AI-PASSPORT have demonstrated significant potential, including faster port call turnaround times and measurable fuel savings, aligning with global sustainability and decarbonisation goals. The platform's AI-based safety systems also enhance situational awareness, supporting crews with predictive insights to prevent collisions and incidents.
