Overview

About AIDS Solidarity Movement

The Movement is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation, registered in 1989 in Cyprus. Since 1995, it has been providing psychosocial support to People living with HIV (PLWH), and those whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS in any way. The Movement strives to combat social stigma related to HIV/AIDS in various ways, such as public awareness campaigns, knowledge dissemination through printed and digital material, training sessions, open discussions, media interventions, researches, surveys, press and other conferences, as well as community interventions. In 2015, the Movement launched “Cy Checkpoint”, the Information, Prevention and Testing Centre for HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). The Cy Checkpoint has conducted more than 3,500 rapid tests for HIV (2015 - 2021) throughout Cyprus, and has to this day (Oct. 2021) linked-to-care 32 people. On top of that, Community Data that are collected have been presented in conferences and in training sessions, both in Cyprus and abroad, are officially published and announced by the Ministry of Health (MoH) every year, during the annual press conference for the World AIDS Day, and are given to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) via the MoH reporting (Dublin Declaration), where the Movement is the main community focal point on the subject, since 2018.
