Al Arabiah Council

Given the importance of languages in cultural diversity, knowledge, and development; and taking into consideration international developments that occurred with the evolution of communication and the industrial, technical and commercial revolution; languages are facing many challenges due to globalization. Therefore, the 33rd session of UNESCO General Conference adopted resolution 33 M/51 (October 20, 2005) through which it proclaimed 2008 as the International Year of Languages and invited UNESCO in this context to be the lead agency for this event.
