About Allegheny County Council
Allegheny County Council is the legislative branch of the county government, consisting of fifteen elected officials serving four-year terms. Thirteen members are elected by district and two elected county-wide, per the Allegheny County Home Rule Charter.
Powers and duties of the Council include: approving and amending legislation, annually adopting balanced budgets, permitting use of county property, levying taxes and fees, and confirming or rejecting appointments for county agencies and authorities
