Overview

About American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI)

The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) is a national non-profit 501(c)6 that sets and promotes standards for property inspections and to provide the educational programs needed to achieve excellence in the profession and to meet the needs of its members.

ASHI started in August 1976 and has created the Standard of Practice that most home inspectors use in the course of the home inspections they perform every day. ASHI's Standard is utilized to some degree in every state that licences home inspectors (approximately 36 states); all provinces in Canada; and national, state, and local home inspection organizations.

ASHI is the most respected professional association for home inspectors in North America. Through ASHI’s continued efforts, ASHI's Standards of Practice—covering all of a home's major systems—are now part of many pieces of state legislation and are recognized by consumers as the authoritative standard for professional home inspection.

ASHI’s web site, www.ashi.org, is the definitive resource for inspectors, consumers, real estate professionals and the media for information, advice and resources dedicated to home inspection. Here you’ll find a wealth of shared ASHI home inspection knowledge at your disposal. Your feedback and comments on ASHI home inspection are welcome.
