About AMVETS Department of California

Honoring veterans with unwavering support and impactful programs, we're California's premier Veterans Service Organization. Join us in building a stronger community for those who've served us.

History
Established in 1945.

AMVETS Department of California, part of the broader AMVETS organization, was founded in 1943 during WWII to support returning veterans. It evolved into a national organization with an inclusive open-door policy for all veterans with honorable discharges, regardless of combat experience. Expansion of eligibility in 1966 and 1984 broadened membership criteria. Today, it serves over 10,000 members statewide, focusing on supporting veterans, preserving freedom, and aiding communities. The organization generates funds through thrift stores to support various programs benefiting veterans and families. AMVETS Department of California remains dedicated to serving those who served, adapting to meet evolving needs.
