About Anglo-Brazilian Society
The Anglo-Brazilian Society was established in London in 1943 to promote close and friendly relations between Brazil and Britain, and to help increase Britain’s knowledge and understanding of Brazil and its culture and heritage.
The Anglo-Brazilian Society welcomes the participation of anyone with an interest in or love for Brazil, regardless of their nationality. The Society’s Honorary President is the Ambassador of Brazil to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, and the Embassy of Brazil, where the Society has its offices, gives the organisation its full support. The current chair of the Anglo-Brazilian Society is Cristina Cortes who is supported by the Members of the Council and Trustees.
The Society organises lectures, exhibitions, musical events, talks and other functions and activities by mainly Brazilian and British participants. Talks have been given on subjects ranging from political and cultural issues, to Brazilian sport and cuisine, to travel and tourism issues.
A varied and lively social calendar includes events such as cachaça tasting, churrascos, samba lessons, film screenings, and caipirinha parties. The Society works verly closely with the very active cultural department of the Embassy of Brazil and promotes its activities, many of which are held in the Embassy itself.
The Society is passionately committed to raising funds for Brazilian charities which address the needs of the underprivileged, especially children. Indeed, the Society’s councilors regard this work as one of the organisation’s core functions. Fundraising is usually carried out by means of social and cultural events.
