Overview

About Animal Liberation NSW

Mission

To work towards the end of suffering of exploited and confined animals, through legislation, consumer advocacy, action and humane education.

Our History

Christine Townend founded Animal Liberation in 1976, based on the philosophies set out by Professor Peter Singer in his best selling book, Animal Liberation.

Societies over time have continuously challenged dominant social views for the rights of the oppressed. Discrimination against various races and women were at one point, part of the social norm. Animals now make up this oppressed group, making the fight against their use, abuse, and exploitation one of the biggest social change movements around the world today. These sentient beings are forced to live in disgusting, crammed conditions and subjected to vile treatment throughout their shortened lifespan, and it is time for change.

Our Work

Animal Liberation fights animal rights issues through: research, investigations, education (campaigns, speakers, Facebook & website), lobbying, public events (meetings, protests, stalls, Cruelty Free Festival), and the 1800 Cruelty Hotline.
