About APEFA

Action pour la Protection de l’Environnement et la Promotion des Filières Agricoles (APEFA), founded in 2001 and registered in 2008, is a Rwandan non-governmental organization embarking on a journey driven by our deep understanding of the immense challenges Rwanda faces due to deforestation, land degradation, and unsustainable farming practices.

Since its inception, APEFA has implemented over 50 projects countrywide focusing on sustainable land management, Forest landscape Restoration, climate-smart agriculture, and capacity building. These interventions have increased climate resilience for farming communities, enhanced food security, boosted incomes, empowered women and youth, and promoted sustainable use of natural resources.

VISION: At Rwanda where nature and human endeavor thrive in harmony, where every community is a beacon of sustainable practices, and where indigenous wisdom seamlessly merges with future promise.

MISSION: To champion community-driven solutions that tackle deforestation, land degradation, and unsustainable farming practices. It empowers local communities particularly smallholder farmers, women, and youth through a blend of indigenous wisdom and modern approaches.

APPROACH: Across all programs, we prioritize community-driven solutions, blending traditional knowledge with modern practices. We focus on empowering women and youth, ensuring our interventions are inclusive and transformative.
