Overview

About AquaGreen

Founded in 2014, AquaGreen is a Danish cleantech engineering company dedicated to delivering sustainable environmental solutions. Backed by leading investors—including the Danish Labour Market Supplementary Pension Fund (ATP)—and developed in close collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), AquaGreen’s patented pyrolysis technology is designed to address three of the planet’s most urgent challenges: environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and resource preservation.

1. Environmental Protection
AquaGreen’s technology removes harmful contaminants such as microplastics, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and PFAS from organic waste streams—safeguarding groundwater and reducing public health risks. The resulting biochar can also be applied in wastewater filtration and soil remediation, capturing even more pollutants and improving environmental outcomes.

2. Climate Change Mitigation
The pyrolysis process prevents organic waste from releasing greenhouse gases while capturing atmospheric CO₂ and locking it into stable biochar for thousands to millions of years. Additionally, the surplus energy generated can be recovered and used to displace fossil fuels in local or district heating systems.

3. Resource Circularity and Recovery
AquaGreen promotes the sustainable reuse of scarce minerals such as phosphorus, reducing reliance on finite resources. The biochar produced functions as a high-quality soil improver and fertiliser, supporting regenerative agriculture and long-term soil health.

Since its founding, AquaGreen has been at the forefront of turning waste into value—enabling utilities and communities to operate more sustainably while contributing to a cleaner, healthier planet.
