Overview

About Assistance League of Atlanta

Assistance League® of Atlanta is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to serving impoverished children & adults in our community through 8 philanthropic programs.

Backpack Buddies provides healthy meals and snacks to fill the hunger gap for elementary schoolchildren whose families cannot afford to feed them adequately over the weekend.

Bears for Children comforts frightened children during crisis situations and hospital stays with child-safe cuddly bears distributed to area hospitals and agencies.

Links to Education provides need-based scholarships to college students pursuing degrees at seven Georgia colleges and universities. The program has awarded more than $1.0 million in educational aid since its inception in 2003.

New Beginnings gives new clothing, household goods and hygiene kits to homeless adults and families, many of whom have nowhere to turn. Through this program we also provide new clothes and hygiene kits to children and adult victims of abuse and domestic violence who are receiving treatment or short-term care at local social agencies.

Operation School Bell® works with social workers in 235 elementary and middle schools to provide students with a week’s worth of new school clothing or other needed items of clothing and hygiene kits as requested. Many of these are homeless or fire victims.

Shepherd Center Patient Support serves patients who have brain and spinal cord injuries by providing new rehab-friendly clothing. We also help patients, many of whom are far from home, celebrate birthdays with cards and wheelchair-friendly backpacks.

Waste Not donates excess goods that could not be sold in our thrift shop to other area charities.

Wee Help assembles and delivers newborn layette packages to Atlanta-area hospitals and clinics for mothers in need of “going-home” clothing for their newborns.

70% of our chapter’s program budget is funded by the sale of donated clothing, household items & furniture in our Attic Treasures thrift shop.
