About Assistance League of Northern Virginia
Assistance League of Northern Virginia, part of a national organization, aims to feed, clothe, and educate at-risk children so they can achieve a better quality of life. Since the pandemic, we have resumed and expanded our philanthropic programs because the students and families we serve face increased economic pressures. During the 2022-23 school year, our WEEKEND FOOD FOR KIDS program provided bags of food monthly to students at 6 schools, and grocery gift cards to a 7th school. In the summer, all 7 schools received grocery cards. Over the 2022-23 school year, we provided 13,440 food bags and 2960 grocery cards, valued at $105,400. We increased the number of food bags and grocery cards for the 2023-24 school year. We’ll provide 13,760 food bags for the year (1720 a month) and more than 2700 grocery cards ($5420). Through our LITERACY FOR KIDS program, we provide reading tutoring to young readers at 4 schools, and new books to students through book fairs, summer reading, and Little Library donations. For the 2023-24 school year, we expect to donate more than 7200 new books. With our NEW CLOTHING FOR KIDS program, we deliver sneakers, clothes, coats, and grooming products. Our HUGS PILLOWS are hand-made pillows, filled with a small stuffed animal, a book, toothbrush & paste so young students develop good bedtime routines.
