About Association for Rural Planning and Action
ARPAN | Empowering Marginalized Voices from the Himalayas
Established in 1996, Arpan is a grassroots voluntary organization dedicated to working with, amongst, and for marginalized and excluded communities, with a central focus on women’s rights and human rights.
Headquartered in the serene village of Helpiya near Askot in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand, Arpan has been actively engaging in social transformation across remote Himalayan regions for three decades. Our work spans community empowerment, adolescent girls’ leadership, gender justice, child protection, and sustainable development—always rooted in equity, dignity, and local participation.
We believe in change that starts at the grassroots—responsive, inclusive, and led by the people it serves.
