About Association for Welfare, Social Action and Research India

Association for Welfare, Social Action and Research (AWSAR) – India is a research-focused voluntary organisation committed to advancing evidence-based social development. Established in 2001 by students of the University of Delhi and social entrepreneurs, with seed support from the Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, AWSAR has, since its inception, positioned research at the core of effective social action.

AWSAR specialises in applied social research, including baseline and endline surveys, programme evaluations, and impact assessments across development sectors. Anchored in ethical research practices, strong academic linkages with the University of Delhi, and participatory methodologies, the organisation generates reliable and actionable evidence to strengthen programmes, enhance accountability, and inform policy and systems-level change. AWSAR bridges grassroots realities with analytical rigour to ensure social interventions are data-driven, effective, and sustainable.

Alongside its research mandate, AWSAR implements community-based programmes across education, mental health, child protection, and community development, with a strong on-ground presence in rural villages, brick kiln communities, and government schools. The organisation runs education centres for first-generation learners, supports learning continuity for migrant children, and undertakes research-led government school transformation initiatives to improve learning outcomes and institutional capacity. Mental health and psychosocial well-being are increasingly integrated across programmes, particularly for children, adolescents, and vulnerable communities.

AWSAR also invests in youth and talent development through scholarship support, structured mentorship, and internship initiatives, nurturing socially committed professionals and strengthening the pipeline of future development practitioners.
