About Association of Academic Museums and Galleries

The Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG) is a network of museums and galleries affiliated with academic institutions throughout North America. AAMG is an Affiliate Professional Organization of the American Association of Museums (AAM) and an affiliate of the College Art Association (CAA) and Small Museum Association (SMA).

Organized in 1980, AAMG (formerly ACUMG) addresses the issues that are relevant and unique to college and university museums and galleries of all disciplines including art, history, natural history, and science. Issues include governance, ethics, education and exhibitions, management, strategic planning, support, collections, and professional programs.

The purpose of the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries shall be to promote the welfare of museums and galleries associated with institutions of higher education as well as the welfare of the professional staffs of those museums and galleries.
