About Assumption University Windsor
Tracing its origins to 1857, Assumption University is one of most historic Roman Catholic institutes of higher learning in Canada. Informed by the Basilian tradition, we seek to empower individuals to cultivate goodness in themselves and others, embody discipline in their path towards excellence, and recognize the importance of constantly pursuing knowledge throughout their lives.
Assumption University is a growing postsecondary institution that has witnessed considerable advancements in several areas. On the academic front,
Assumption University signature program is the online Graduate Diploma in Catholic Studies. In the program, students are able to take courses on Catholic thought, social justice, and ecumenical and interfaith dialogue. This dynamic program also provides pathways to further graduate credentials at the University of Windsor, the University of Detroit Mercy, and St. Peter's Seminary. The program is seen as a hiring asset by eight Catholic school boards in Ontario. The program has attracted considerable support in the form of seven scholarships.
Assumption is also a strong supporter of ecumenism and interfaith dialogue. Since 2004, the endowed Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Religion and Conflict has provided opportunities for the community to learn about various faith traditions in the spirit of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect. The chair engages in teaching courses on dialogue, conducts research projects a topic of contemporary relevance, and sponsors talks in the community at no charge.
Assumption University also has an active campus ministry program that serves the needs of all students, regardless of faith tradition.
