About Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment, USA
We help communities save their ecosystems by mobilizing resources and transforming knowledge into action.
The Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment USA (ATREE USA) partners with South Asia’s most respected environmental institutions to protect biodiversity, support sustainable livelihoods, and strengthen environmental governance. ATREE USA plays a distinct and catalytic role in this work: we raise resources, build partnerships, and mobilize ideas that bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world change.
With roots in a 30-year legacy of community-led conservation in India, ATREE USA supports work across some of the world’s most critical and fragile ecosystems — from the forests of the Western Ghats to the Eastern Himalayas and the drylands of Karnataka. This work is grounded in a "landscapes, livelihoods, and leadership" approach: place-based, community-centered, and led by a new generation of environmental leaders.
ATREE USA is also working to rethink sustainability education in the U.S., drawing on India-grown approaches that integrate Indigenous knowledge, interdisciplinary research, and civic action. We believe the future of sustainability depends not on isolated innovation from the Global North, but on learning from proven models developed with frontline communities around the world.
Join us in transforming knowledge into action — and building a more just and resilient future, ecosystem by ecosystem.
