About AUT Law Students' Society (AUTLSS)
The AUT Law Students' Society was established in 2009 to meet the needs of AUT Law students and acts as a link between AUT law students and both faculty and the legal profession. The Society operates under the umbrella of the New Zealand Law Students' Society.
AUTLSS is represented on AUT's City and South campuses, assisting students in all aspects of their law degree. This includes advocating for students on broad student interest matters, working with partner societies to hold study workshops, provide pathways to obtaining career and clerkship advice, and hold social events. These are often to recognise a particular theme or charity, such as Pink Ribbon for example. We also run sponsored legal skills competitions for senior and junior students, which segue for senior competition winners into representation at national competitions and beyond.
We engage with external partners and in particular are grateful to our local legal community for sponsoring events and competitions, offering our students opportunities that help to prepare them for post-study lives. We are also supportive of the direction that legal education is taking, as guided by the New Zealand Council of Legal Education and implemented by our law school's faculty.
