AutoMated GEneral Laboratory (AMGEL)

Automated Molecular and Genetic Laboratory (AMGL) During the last 20 years, thousands of life science research studies were published, however only a fraction of those have shown reproducible results. In a 2016 survey, more than 70% of scientists reported they could not reproduce an experimental result from a publication, and more than 50% could not reproduce an experiment of their own. Most experiments are currently performed manually, thus, research progress is slow, tedious and vulnerable to human errors and significant experimental inconsistencies. In order to improve health science studies, we invented an automation platform, called Automated Molecular and Genetic Laboratory (AMGL), which provides physical and electrical connection of standard laboratory equipment. AMGL Benefits 1. Increase consistency: High repeatability of experimental steps due to robotic accuracy 2. Maximize efficiency: - Perform different experiments simultaneously - 24/7 working capability 3. Save time for researchers: Use for studying, conference attendance, publication of their results, visit the local pub etc without pausing their laboratory work. 4. Reduce research cost: Stop the waste of samples and reagents 5. Improve lab-book documentation: Document with pictures and video the progress of each experiment in order to give the opportunity to correctly troubleshoot any unexpected outcomes (e.g. due to sample contamination, mispositioned reagent by users etc). 6. Improve result evaluation: Harvest samples during the experimental procedure and store for use as internal controls of each experiment. This task, even though is crucial for ensuring robustness of scientific results, is very difficult to be performed manually most of the times, due to the sheer number of samples to be collected in each single experiment. AMGL will be able to perform this task automatically, upon request by its users.
