The industry directly employs 4 million people, and indirectly, many more. The volumes of vehicles, efficiency, safety, features, and choice have been steadily increasing throughout the industry’s history. Although many large companies have problems with overcapacity and low profitability, the automotive industry still remains very strong influence and importance. The industry also provides good-value, well-paid jobs that have strong ties to supplier industries (which gives it an enormous role in the economic expansion), and has strong political influence.
