About AWV - Associacao Waste to Value
AWV, Associação Waste to Value, is a Portugal-based non-profit organization committed to solve urgent environmental and social challenges through innovative waste management.
Currently operating in Portugal and Niger, with the goal to expand our initiative to multiple countries in Africa, we drive innovation, job creation, and environmental sustainability through circular economy solutions.
Operating in both Portugal and Niger, we turn organic waste into high-quality compost, restoring soil fertility, reducing urban waste streams, and creating sustainable jobs.
Our Waste-to-Value program in Niamey has already demonstrated:
• A significantly better functioning waste collection (by drastically reducing the volume of waste to be disposed of) and thus making an important contribution to the pollution of the environment and of the surface and groundwater and the air in Niamey.
• Employment for vulnerable groups in society: with the target group consisting of unemployed young people and women, a possible roll-out across Niamey could create up to 4,000 jobs.
• A significant part of the waste (sand, organic waste) can be processed into new products such as filling sand and compost to replace imported fertilizer, so that income is also generated with the processing of the waste, which is important to create sustainable jobs.
• A scalable model for Niger and sub-Saharan Africa.
We’re now entering a new growth phase, including the introduction of granulated compost and expansion into more regions.
We welcome collaboration with partners passionate about helping us to build a sustainable future!
