About Bioprinting Lab TU Berlin

Our mission is to improve the human relevance of biomedical research and develop alternative methods to animal testing. Three-dimensional bioprinting is used to generate organ models that are then used for various biomedical research applications. In addition to animal welfare, an advantage of this approach is that human cells are used, and the humanized models may have greater relevance to human disease than animal models. Our focus is on models for the lung and the liver. We use the bioprinted organ models to carry out infection studies. Furthermore, we develop cancer models. A particular strength of bioprinting is the opportunity to includes a vascular system to the organ model, which allows perfusion of the models.
