About AKU Centre of Excellence for Trauma and Emergencies
More than half of the disease burden in low and lower-middle income countries (LMICs) stems from health emergencies. Trauma stands out as a leading cause of disability-adjusted life years globally, particularly affecting young breadwinners in low-income families. Similarly, epidemics, conflicts, and other disasters disproportionately impact the world's poor and most vulnerable.
Currently, there is a dearth of expertise and leadership in trauma, emergency, and disaster preparedness and response in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
To address this critical knowledge and training gap, Aga Khan University has established the Centre of Excellence for Trauma and Emergencies (CETE). Positioned as a global "thought leader" embedded within vulnerable communities, CETE serves as a pivotal hub for training, research, innovation, and policy advocacy.
The Centre of Excellence for Trauma and Emergencies at Aga Khan University is committed to:
1. Developing and implementing educational and capacity-building initiatives in trauma and emergencies for communities, healthcare professionals, and leadership in LMICs.
2. Conducting high-quality, externally-funded research and innovation in the fields of disaster, trauma, and emergency.
3. Supporting the delivery of high-quality trauma and emergency care through technological advancements.
4. Advocate for local and global policy reforms aimed at improving health outcomes for individuals and communities affected by trauma and emergencies in LMICs.
