About Department for Energy and Mining, South Australia
The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) is one of the first government departments globally to recognise the link between our mining and energy sectors. It’s a link that’s critical to the world’s net zero emissions future.
At DEM, we are responsible for driving game changing projects that are critical to South Australia’s economic future, helping to achieve our net zero goals while ensuring grid stability and planning for ongoing energy affordability.
This includes securing the future of steelmaking, expanding gas supply to support our energy grid and increasing the state’s copper production to ensure South Australia benefits from increasing global demand.
Through targeted programs, we increase consumer access to renewable energy, supporting more South Australians to take advantage of the energy transition.
We deliver best practice regulation to ensure that the state’s resources are accessed and extracted responsibly, in a way that supports the needs of both industry and the community and respects our natural environment.
As guests on Aboriginal land, the Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) acknowledges everything this department does impacts on Aboriginal country, the sea, the sky, its peoples, and the spiritual and cultural connections which have existed since the first sunrise. Our responsibility is to share our collective knowledge, recognise a difficult history, respect the relationships made over time, and create a stronger future.
We are ready to walk, learn and work together.
