About EcoCapture
EcoCapture is developing a circular platform for hospitals, healthcare centers, laboratories, and healthcare industry stakeholders to reduce medical waste and improve resource efficiency.
Numerous studies show that significant volumes of new or unused equipment are discarded each year due to a lack of visibility on stocks and appropriate redistribution mechanisms.
In emergency departments, for example, significant quantities of unopened supplies are discarded, revealing a lack of logistical coordination (Hu et al., 2024).
In operating rooms, studies confirm that prepared but unused sterile supplies are a major source of waste. A recent study quantified an average loss of 5.9% of sterile supplies opened during laparotomies (Bakhshi et al., 2024). Other analyses show that the cost of unused equipment can reach several hundred euros per procedure, depending on the specialty (Chasseigne et al., 2018).
EcoCapture offers a solution for:
- Sharing medical equipment and consumables,
- Reselling, donating, or renting out equipment that is still usable,
- Anticipating expiration dates,
- Recycling expired equipment,
- Ensuring traceability of flows between departments and institutions.
These approaches are in line with the recommendations of the OECD, EHMA, and HCWH Europe, which emphasize the need to increase inventory visibility, reduce waste, and promote circular models in order to improve the sustainability and performance of healthcare systems.
EcoCapture aims to transform dormant stocks into valuable resources and support a more resilient and efficient healthcare system.
