About Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) - Ethiopia

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) is an autonomous quasi-governmental federal institution operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Labor and Skills. Dedicated to fostering a dynamic and innovative entrepreneurial ecosystem, it implements a comprehensive suite of entrepreneurship and innovation support programs, including capacity building, Business Development Services (BDS), access to finance, and market linkage.

EDI is a national host of the EMPRETEC program in partnership with the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). As such, it is one of the most vibrant centers in Africa and globally. Moreover, it is the national host of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW).

EDI has been a success story of impact at individual, institutional, and ecosystem levels over the past 12 years. With the vision to midwife the birth of Ethiopia’s first unicorns, it is experimenting with novel ways to catalyze the country’s economic and social renaissance with the motto: Inspire, Disrupt, and Transform.
