Overview
About Ekerö kommun
The Municipality of Ekerö is one of 290 municipalities in Sweden. It is situated in the eastern part of Lake Mälaren, close to Stockholm. It is unique in many ways.
Two objects on the World heritage list are to be found within its borders. One is Drottningholm Palace (home of the Swedish Royal Family). The other is Birka on Björkö (the only Viking town existing in the world) with Hovgården on Adelsö.
Ekerö is also an Eco-municipality. This means that the local authorities strive towards a strong community from the ecological points of view by, for instance, taking various measures to achieve a good ecological cycle.
