About UND Research & Economic Development
The UND Division of Research & Economic Development - a Carnegie R1 Research Institution - directs, advances, and develops institution-wide strategy, and advocates for the University's research programs and promotes the creation and maintenance of a university environment that encourages and supports research and scholarly activity.
UND VPRED is responsible for policy and oversight of sponsored program administration and program development including compliance with state and federal regulations on the proper use of humans and animals in research, radiation and hazardous materials safety, biosafety and recombinant DNA, conflict of interest, and the proper conduct of research. The Division is responsible for the management of intellectual property, coordinates the University's technology transfer initiatives, administers internal grant competitions, coordinates the University's state and federal relations efforts that bear on research, leads events and communications for research, administers the Research Institute for Autonomous Systems, and leads university-wide research initiatives including National Security and Behavioral Health to Enhance discovery at a level consistent with most research-intensive universities (Carnegie R1).
To accomplish part of that goal, UND has defined six Grand Challenges, generating opportunity by helping diversify North Dakota’s economy and addressing social issues.
