Why the Right Coach Matters for Senior Leadership Transitions

A 'good coach' and 'right coach' are not the same thing.

A CFO preparing to step into a CEO role for the first time needs someone who can ask powerful questions AND someone who has navigated that transition themselves. Who knows what it feels like to suddenly be responsible for everything. Who can say "I've been there" and mean it.

A Chief People Officer managing her first major restructure needs someone who has made the calls she's about to have to make - not a generic framework.

Coaching at senior level is a different discipline — not just a more expensive version of the same thing.

The match between a coach and a leader at ExCo level needs to account for background, sector experience, personality, lived context and the specific nature of what that leader is navigating right now. Our coaching pool of 200 people is what makes the right match possible.

Because at this level, the wrong match doesn't just fail to help. It also wastes time, erodes trust, and leaves the leader exactly where they started — except now they're sceptical about coaching altogether.

Getting it right matters. Which means taking the matching process seriously.
