Empowering Women in Clean Energy: Breaking Barriers in Electrical Apprenticeships

Women belong in the future of clean energy, but persistent structural and cultural barriers are still preventing many from entering and completing electrical apprenticeships.

A new Gender Impact Assessment Report (GIA) produced by Tradeswomen Australia highlights the urgent need for change across the electrical industry at a time when Australia needs a larger, more diverse clean energy workforce.

Developed as part of the Powering Women into Clean Energy Apprenticeships Project, the report centres the lived experiences of women in the electrical industry and identifies the barriers impacting participation and retention.

The findings are clear: increasing women’s participation in electrical trades is not only an equity issue, it’s essential to addressing Australia’s growing clean energy skills shortages.

Commissioned by Future Energy Skills, with funding from Building Women's Careers, this report is the first phase of a Tasmanian and Victorian collaboration bringing together organisations across the clean energy, electrotechnology, apprenticeship and training sectors to create safer, more accessible pathways for women into electrical apprenticeships.

Now it’s time to turn research into action. Check out the report findings here:
