Happy #OfficeArtifactFriday!
Today, we give you our copy of a Winter 2001 newsletter from the Boston Women's Heritage Trail!
In honor of May being Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we wanted to spotlight the fantastic story on the back of this pamphlet featuring Chinatown legend Rose Lok, who was among the first female aviators in the 1930s!
The newsletter goes on to recount how Amelia Earhart's stunts, such as flying over Boston to drop leaflets about events at the Dennison Settlement House in Chinatown, where Earhart worked, could have catalyzed Lok to pursue her own career as an aviatrice.
Lok was described as being the only female member in a group of Chiantown aviators known for "strutting around town in their long leather flying coats."
