Menopause is not always natural
Some women are pushed into menopause overnight after cancer treatment.
or after ovary removal. In their 30s or sometimes even earlier.
And yet these are the women we talk about the least.
Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), where ovarian function declines before age 40, affects around 1% of women globally.
In Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), premature menopause (before age 40) generally affects ~1.5% to ~7% of women, depending on the region.
Many cancer treatments can trigger menopause permanently. Women who undergo surgical menopause often experience more severe and abrupt symptoms because hormone levels drop suddenly, not gradually.
And the impact is not “just symptoms.”
Early estrogen loss is associated with:
💔 higher cardiovascular risk
🦴 accelerated bone loss
🧠 cognitive and mental health effects
🌡️ severe sleep, mood, and vasomotor symptoms
Yet support after treatment is often fragmented or nonexistent.
Women survive cancer.
Women recover from surgery.
And then are expected to quietly survive everything that comes after too.
As though menopause becomes secondary because they’ve already gone through something “bigger.”
This is one of the most overlooked gaps in women’s health.
Because menopause is not one experience.
And women facing medically induced or premature menopause deserve structured, longitudinal support too.
At Miyara Health, this is something we care about deeply.
The Miyara App is also for you - whether you:
-are considering or already on HRT/MHT
-want to better understand your symptoms and risks
or prefer self-guided symptom management programs and lifestyle support.
Because every woman deserves tools to understand what is happening to her body, not just survive it silently.
