Visions Africa's Educational Visit to Campaign Against Genocide Museum

Last Friday, on May 08, 2026, the Visions Africa team had the opportunity to visit the Campaign Against Genocide Museum located at the Parliament of Rwanda.

The visit was both educational and reflective, offering deeper insight into one of the most difficult periods in Rwanda’s history and the efforts that contributed to stopping the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The museum preserves historical records, testimonies, artifacts, and exhibitions that explain the context of the genocide, the resistance against it, and the rescue efforts carried out during that time.

One of the key learning points for our team was the importance of preserving historical truth and creating spaces where future generations can continue learning about the consequences of division, hate speech, and violence. The experience also reinforced the value of unity, accountability, resilience, and responsible leadership in building stronger communities and a stronger nation in general.

As an organization, we value opportunities that encourage reflection on our shared humanity, meaningful conversations around peacebuilding, and the responsibility we all carry in promoting peace and preventing violence and human suffering.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Government of Rwanda for its continued efforts to preserve history, promote peace, and create spaces that strengthen national unity and remembrance.
