Women's Progress in Law Firms: Gains, Concerns & Future Directions

Women continue to make important gains in law firm representation — reaching 52.09% of associates and 29.55% of partners in 2025, according to National Association for Law Placement.

But NALP’s latest diversity report also points to areas of concern: racial diversity growth has slowed, summer associate diversity declined, and fewer firms are reporting demographic data.

As Nikia Gray noted, these numbers reflect “real people, real experiences and real disparities.”
