Welcome you to my page, where I'll be sharing my personal journey with depression and anxiety. One in five teens between the ages of 12 and 18 is affected by a mental health condition that can be diagnosed.
Depression, anxiety, and behavioral issues top the list. Suicide ranks as the fourth leading cause of death among 15- to 29-year-olds. Ignoring our mental health as teenagers can have serious consequences that follow us into adulthood.
It can be a difficult and isolating experience, but I believe in the power of sharing our stories and supporting one another. That's why I created Hiya as a safe space for everyone to learn, grow, support, and feel seen and heard.
I want to foster a sense of curiosity about mental health and mental illness. I want to encourage you to ask questions, explore new perspectives, and challenge old beliefs. I believe that knowledge and understanding are the first steps toward healing and growth.
Kindness and inclusivity are key values of my business. Mental health affects us all, regardless of age, race, gender, or any other factor. That's why I want to create a space where everyone feels welcome and valued.
Finally, my goal is to spread awareness and reduce the stigma. I want to share my own experiences, along with the strategies and resources that have helped me, in the hope that they will inspire and support others.
With support from counseling, mentorship, faith, and loved ones, I found ways to manage my struggles. One source of comfort was creating beaded bracelets and giving them to classmates in need of encouragement. Soon, friends and classmates were purchasing and sharing the bracelets.
The bracelets became known as the "Hiya's Beads of Courage" collection, where buying a bracelet supports gifting one to a teen in need of encouragement and the reminder that they are not alone. Available now on https://goshophiya.com
