About Grasslands Conservation Council of BC
WHO WE ARE:
Our mission is to ensure the conservation, restoration and stewardship of British Columbia’s grasslands through integrated partnerships and collaboration across people, place and purpose.
British Columbia’s native grasslands are unique and important ecosystems.
Did you know?
• Along with the other diminishing temperate grasslands of the world, they have been internationally recognized as an ecosystem at risk.
• Covering less than 1% of the province, BC’s grasslands have local, regional, provincial, and federal significance as they are home to more than 30% of its species at risk.
• Okanagan and other interior grasslands are a continuation of the Great Steppe Grasslands that extend through the United States to Mexico and provide a critical corridor for species movement between Mexico and Canada.
By working together to protect special areas, practicing active management, and engaging in wise stewardship, we can strengthen and renew our grassland ecosystems.
