About HKUST GREAT Smart Cities Institute (GSCI)

The HKUST GREAT Smart Cities Institute (GSCI) is a research institute established in 2018 to advance the science and technology for urban innovation. Our mission is to create the sustainable, resilient, and livable cities of tomorrow for Hong Kong and global urban centres.

Our work is guided by the five “GREAT” attributes of a world-class smart city: Green, Resilient, Empowering, Adaptable, and Transformative. This framework ensures our projects deliver holistic and impactful results.

We focus our efforts on pioneering new research, formulating evidence-based policy recommendations for governments, and developing smart tools for advanced infrastructure planning. A core part of our mission is also to nurture the next generation of urban innovators and leaders.
