Overview

About Greek Community of Melbourne

Founded in 1897, the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) is one of Australia’s oldest cultural organisations, established to support and represent Greek migrants and their descendants. Today, GCM continues that legacy by promoting Greek language, culture, education, and community life across generations.

Through major events such as the Antipodes Festival, Melbourne Greek Film Festival, and Comedy at the Greek, GCM celebrates and shares the richness of Hellenic culture with the wider community. Our educational programs include Greek language schools, VCE support, and adult short courses, fostering learning and cultural continuity.

Based at The Greek Centre in Melbourne’s Greek Precinct on Lonsdale Street, GCM also runs a vibrant program of arts, history, and cultural initiatives, provides support for faith and education communities, and works closely with local, state, and national partners to strengthen multicultural dialogue and civic participation.

We are proud to serve as a bridge between generations — connecting Greek-Australians, celebrating our shared heritage, and contributing to Victoria’s vibrant multicultural story.
