About ICT Textiles
Welcome to the Department of Fibres and Textile Processing Technology!
In 1933, the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) Mumbai, presently known as Institute of Chemical Technology, was established through Sir Vitthal Chandavarkar, Chairman of the Mills Owners’ Association. It originally started with two disciplines: Textile Chemistry and Chemical Engineering under the umbrella of Mumbai University.
The Department offers B.Tech (4 years), with an intake capacity of 34, M.Sc (Textile Chemistry), M.Tech and Ph.D(Tech). These programmes attract a large number of students, so far more than 2580 graduates and 710 postgraduates have passed out from this Department. In addition to core chemistry concepts, students are exposed to in-depth knowledge of various chemicals and instruments used in the textile processing industry. Our program also integrates the knowledge of sustainability, biotechnology, nanotechnology, smart textiles, material sciences and many other emerging fields.
We aim to be a world class centre of excellence in teaching, learning and research in Chemical Processing of Fibres, Textiles and Apparels. We focus on training industrial technicians to meet international quality standards, conducting industrially relevant research, offering technological interventions to preserve rural heritage and strengthen the rural economy. Additionally, creating awareness of environmental protection and social and ethical commitment through campaigns and research programmes. We have collaborations with various national and international universities and industries in the field of technical textiles, smart textiles, hygiene textiles, green and sustainable textiles and meeting the crucial needs for a better future.
