About Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences

The scientific activity of the Institute is focused on various aspects of inorganic chemistry. Inorganic chemistry is developing dynamically and its influence is increasing to other areas of natural sciences, such as material, physical, bio and environmental sciences, and others. Our knowledge of synthetic methods, photochemistry, solid state analysis, analytical and quantum chemistry, catalysis and other areas of chemistry enables us to actively work on a number of multidisciplinary projects. We discover new molecules, nanomaterials, or materials with specific properties such as luminescence, optical, sorption, catalytic and others. These products offer a wide range of applications, including the removal of toxic substances and construction of bactericidal surfaces, components of sensors or lasers, effective catalysis, or potential in diagnostics and therapy in medicine. Our chemical view also contributes to the development of geosciences and makes it possible to evaluate artworks in terms of their origin, age, and provenance. Thus, our scientific work results in many applications. For all this, we utilize the quality instrument infrastructure of the Institute. Researchers of the Institute train undergraduate and doctoral students, supervise their theses, and participate in teaching at universities.
